  11. Thank you for downloading #1-TuffTEST-Lite, our
  12. FREE PC Diagnostic Software product. Once made,
  13. the #1-TuffTEST-Lite Program Diskette is
  14. self-booting with its own proprietary operating
  15. system. #1-TuffTEST-Lite is very unique in that
  16. it will "automatically" boot and rigorously
  17. test your PC's basic hardware in only 10-15
  18. minutes.

  20. It is strongly recommended that you read the
  21. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS shown below before
  22. you attempt to install it. Also see the
  23. "whatsnew.txt" file for a review of the new
  24. features, enhancements and fixes since the last
  25. release.

  27. #1-TuffTEST-Lite is the FREEWARE version of our
  28. #1-TuffTEST PC Diagnostic product. There are
  29. absolutely no time limits, restrictions or
  30. limitations on its use or distribution.

  33. INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
  34.  
  35. Step 1.
  36. VERY IMPORTANT: Before installing
  37. #1-TuffTEST-Lite:
  38.  
  39. o ALL other open applications and programs
  40. running in the background MUST be closed. This
  41. especially applies to anti-virus and system
  42. protection programs. If this is not possible,
  43. boot your PC into SAFE MODE and run the
  44. installation file.
  45.  
  46. o ALL BIOS-based anti-virus and system
  47. protection functions MUST be disabled.
  48.  
  49. o If you are using Windows NT, 2000 or XP you
  50. must first log on with "Full Administrator
  51. Privileges".
  52.  
  53. Step 2.
  54. TO INSTALL THE SOFTWARE FROM THIS DISC, 
  55. PLEASE GO TO START, RUN AND TYPE D:\Driverwizard\ttlsetup.exe 
  56. WHERE D IS THE LETTER ASSIGNED TO THE RELEVANT DRIVE ON YOUR PC
  57.  
  58. Check the file name and size of the
  59. #1-TuffTEST-Lite Installation Wizard. The file
  60. name should be "ttlsetup.exe" and the file size
  61. should be 317,044 bytes. If for any
  62. reason you need to download ttlsetup.exe again,
  63. you can download it at no charge from:

  67. Step 3.
  68. The #1-TuffTEST-Lite Installation Wizard,
  69. ttlsetup.exe, is a self-extracting Windows
  70. program that you "run" under Windows 3.1x,
  71. Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows ME, Windows NT,
  72. Windows 2000 or Windows XP.

  74. Step 4.
  75. The Installation Wizard creates a Program Group
  76. with 2 icons. One icon, the Make
  77. #1-TuffTEST-Lite Diskette Wizard, is for making
  78. a self-booting #1-TuffTEST-Lite Program
  79. Diskette whenever needed. And the other icon,
  80. #1-TuffTEST-Lite USE INSTRUCTIONS, is for
  81. viewing and/or printing the #1-TuffTEST-Lite
  82. Use Instructions file (1ttlread.wri). The
  83. default directory is C:\Program Files\TT-Lite.

  85. Step 5.
  86. During operation the Make #1-TuffTEST-Lite
  87. Diskette Wizard will automatically open a DOS
  88. Window, create the #1-TuffTEST-Lite Program
  89. Diskette and then automatically return to the
  90. Make #1-TuffTEST-Lite Diskette Wizard.
  91. Therefore, it is very important that your
  92. operating system is configured to allow running
  93. a DOS program under Windows.
  94.  
  95. NOTE 1 - This is the default Windows setup,
  96. however, some Windows NT, 2000 and XP setups do
  97. not allow writing to a diskette and/or shelling
  98. to DOS. If this is the case with your operating
  99. system, you must log in with full
  100. "Administrator Privileges" prior to running the
  101. #1-TuffTEST-Lite Installation Wizard. If this
  102. is not possible, you can put the
  103. #1-TuffTEST-Lite Installation Wizard,
  104. ttlsetup.exe, on a floppy diskette and make
  105. your #1-TuffTEST-Lite Program Diskette on
  106. another PC running Windows.
  107.  
  108. NOTE 2 - The Make #1-TuffTEST-Lite Diskette
  109. Wizard will not run properly on systems that
  110. are using "alternative" autoexec.bat and/or
  111. config.sys files. These files may have been
  112. modified (by the user or a program) to run
  113. something like 4-DOS over MS-DOS or to
  114. accommodate running DOS games/programs that
  115. can't run under Windows in a DOS window. In the
  116. latter case, Windows will not let you run a DOS
  117. program under Windows. It will put up a dialog
  118. box asking you if you want to re-start your
  119. system in DOS mode. If you answer yes, all
  120. Windows programs, including our Windows-based
  121. installer, are shut down and the system is
  122. re-started in DOS mode. You can then run your
  123. DOS game/program under DOS. In order to run the
  124. Make #1-TuffTEST-Lite Diskette Wizard you will
  125. need to use the standard autoexec.bat and
  126. config.sys files or use another PC.

  128. Note 3 - Some DOS game installation programs
  129. will create a "command.pif" file that will
  130. re-start your PC in DOS mode whenever you try
  131. to run a DOS program. In order to run the Make
  132. #1-TuffTEST-Lite Diskette Wizard you will need
  133. to temporarily re-name this file.
  134.  
  135. Step 6.
  136. The #1-TuffTEST-Lite format and file structure
  137. is not compatible with commercial operating
  138. systems (DOS, Windows, UNIX, etc.). Thus
  139. #1-TuffTEST-Lite's files cannot be "seen" by
  140. these operating systems. So do not attempt to
  141. do native operating system commands such as
  142. "DIR" on them as you MAY DAMAGE the newly
  143. created #1-TuffTEST-Lite Program Diskette.

  145. Step 7.
  146. The ONLY way to determine if you have
  147. successfully created your #1-TuffTEST-Lite
  148. Program Diskette is to try to use it as
  149. described in step 8.

  151. Step 8.
  152. To test your newly created #1-TuffTEST-Lite
  153. Program Diskette, close all open programs, shut
  154. down Windows, turn off the PC, insert the
  155. #1-TuffTEST-Lite Program Diskette into Drive A,
  156. and then turn on the PC. #1-TuffTEST-Lite will
  157. boot the PC and display its Main Menu in 30-90
  158. seconds.

  160. Step 9.
  161. Make sure the "Boot Order" for the target PC is
  162. set at "A, C" in CMOS Setup. If the
  163. configuration is "C, A" the PC will ignore the
  164. #1-TuffTEST-Lite Program Diskette in Drive A
  165. and boot from Drive C.
  166.  
  167. Step 10.
  168. Click on the "Make #1-TuffTEST-Lite Diskette"
  169. Icon to make a #1-TuffTEST-Lite Program
  170. Diskette whenever needed. If the image write
  171. fails make sure you are using a "good" blank
  172. DOS formatted diskette that is "not"
  173. write-protected.
  174.  
  175. Step 11.
  176. Finally, if all efforts fail, try creating your
  177. Program Diskette in SAFE MODE. If that also
  178. fails, you can put the #1-TuffTEST-Lite
  179. Installation Wizard, ttlsetup.exe, on a floppy
  180. diskette and make your #1-TuffTEST-Lite Program
  181. Diskette on another PC running Windows.
